ISP Network Monitoring

A plug and play monitoring solution for ISPs based on our Ofcom/FCC approved/endorsed/relied upon Benchmarking Platform, but tweaked specifically for the purposes of ISPs.

Initially we developed this solution for ourselves, so that we could more closely monitor our own ISP connections. We then realised that other people had the same problem/requirement, so we sent out 300 units to test the system amongst a wider group. We were then contacted by Ofcom who used the system to carry out the first ever project to benchmark the Performance of the top 6 ISPs (by subscriber numbers). All this within a matter of months. We continue to work with Ofcom on an ongoing basis and have also been appointed by the US Government Telecoms Regulator, the FCC, to carry out a parallel project to measure broadband America.

SamKnows has been appointed by a number of ISPs, around the world, to provide our performance measurement solutions. One of these is Virgin Media, who, following an extensive six-month competitive review where Virgin tested the SamKnows Performance Monitoring solution against other competitor products. These appointments gives SamKnows the ability to work with some of the leading engineers in the World, as we continue to extend the functionality of our solution so that it next release meets the specific needs of an ISP. This includes upgrades to the existing tests, enhancing the reporting functionality and adding a broader set of tests, whilst maintaining our focus on ease/low cost of deployment and data accuracy.

When we look back to only a year ago, when we first started talking about this project, we always intended it to be a collaborative process and we're delighted by the feedback we've had from Academics, Trade Associations, ISPs, US Government, FCC, UK Government, Ofcom, the Digital Britain team, the Media, Analysts, but most importantly (at least to us) fellow Consumers.
