BE Broadband launches line bonding - fibre speds from two lines

12 Nov 2010 | 15.05 Europe/London
BE Broadband has today announced the launch of line bonding, allowing customers to combine two telephone lines in to one broadband connection so they can receive downlaod speeds up to 44Mbp/s and uploads of up to 5Mbp/s.

Combining lines in this way has been a route for many companies to increase their broadband speed but it is less common among residential customers. Hence, BE Broadband claims it could prove a popular service with people who want a faster connection for uploading and downloading multimedia content as well as those who live too far from their exchange to receive a usable speed with just one line.

Customers will need to have two BT lines, and hence two BT rentals per month, as well as pay a fee for the bonded service of £65 per month. There is also a connection fee of £85.

Alex Gowar, Head of Marketing for BE Broadband, said: “As only half of the UK population have access to fibre currently, BE’s Line Bonding product is a real viable alternative. But Line Bonding is not only great for BE customers who want fibre speeds, but it could also be life changing for the millions of UK customers who suffer slower speeds because they live a long way from the exchange.”
