Be launches landline bundles after O2 reorganisation

21 Sep 2010 | 14.11 Europe/London
Be has extended its broadband service to include landline bundles in the same month as parent company, O2, reorganised the naming and pricing of its broadband packages.

From today, new or existing Be customers can take out either broadband or a landline, or both. Be’s landline services are split in to ‘basic landline’ (£9.50 per month), ‘evening and weekend’ (£10.50) and ‘anytime’ (£13.50). As the names suggest these offer no inclusive calls, free evening and weekend calls or anytime free calls to landlines. As one might imagine from an ‘anytime’ deal, the top tariff includes free calls to landlines in 22 countries and free calls to mobiles in America and Canada.

The broadband packages of ‘value’ (£13.79 per month), ‘unlimited’ (£17.88) and ‘pro’ (£21.97) remain unchanged with ‘pro’ offering the differentiator of uploads of up to 2.5Mbp/s instead of 1.3Mbp/s on ‘value’ and ‘unlimited’.

O2 rethink

Be’s parent company, O2, realigned its broadband tariffs this month to make them easier to understand. It now offers ‘Basics’, ‘All Rounder’ and ‘The Works’ for £13, £17 and £25 per month (O2 mobile customers get a £5 discount). As with Be, the main differentiator between the top two packages is a rise in upload speed from 1.3Mbp/s to 2.5Mbp/s.

O2 also offers a basic landline service starting at £7.50 per month, with anytime calls available for an extra £5 per month. It means its cheapest bundle is £20.50 (£15.50 for O2 mobile customers) compared to £23.29 for Be.
