Broadband USO - how about satellite ?
13 Jan 2009 | 11.44 Europe/London
BeyonDSL has tweaked its 2-way satellite offerring using Astra2Connect - bringing the price of a basic 256/64k service down to £19.99 per month equivalent if paid annually, otherwise £24.99 per month.
As usual with satellite the high cost of bandwidth leads to restrictions, the above service includes 800 MB of "priority bandwidth" per month and if usage exceeds 2 GB the downlink is restricted to 64 kbits/s.
Recent talk of a 2M broadband USO could in theory be met by BeyonDSL's 2M / 128k service with 2 GB of priority service and a 64k speed limit once 5 GB/month is exceeded. £79.99 per month if paid annually, £5 more for monthly payment. 12 month contract. 1M download speed is £40/month cheaper.
Setup costs are not small at £350 for self install or an extra £100 for an installer to visit. Additional options to provide TV from Freesat are also available.
Obviously the monthly data transfer is a bit limited, and the service is fairly asymmetric with a modest upload speed, but this is a practical option for an ADSL Notspot.
