BT Wholesale publishes indicative Fibre To The Premises pricing
BT Wholsale’s launch of FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) at the new Ebbsfleet valley housing development kicks off this Autumn. Whilst a rough product line-up has been in the public domain for some time, this is the first time we’ve seen any pricing information from them.
The following table summarises both the products and prices on offer.
| Product | Connection charge | Line rental (til Mar 2010) |
Line rental (post Mar 2010) |
| 135 kbps (Voice only) | £80.00 | £3.95 | £11.87 |
| 2.5 / 0.5 Mbps | £130.00 | £3.95 | £18.54 |
| 10 / 0.5 Mbps | £130.00 | £3.95 | £21.45 |
| 10 / 2 Mbps (30Mbps burstable) | £130.00 | £3.95 | £23.45 |
| 10 / 2 Mbps (100Mbps burstable) | £130.00 | £3.95 | £28.45 |
Of particular interest is that Openreach are going to be offering free line rental until March 2010 (hence the two price columns) and are also providing the first 4000 connections free of charge.
Of course, these are simply indicative wholesale end user access (EUA) prices. They do not take in to account the necessary backhaul costs, bandwidth costs and any additional services that a retail ISP would need to provide.
So far no ISPs have announced that they will be using the Wholesale Broadband Connect based service, but this is hardly surprising given the lack of announcements around WBC products in general. We’d expect the biggest WBC proponents (BT Retail and Entanet) to indicate their interest at some point soon, with further ISPs following later.
