Enta, NewNet and Edge all expand their LLU networks
Whilst some of the larger LLU operators such as Sky and O2 may be slowing their roll out, many of the smaller operators are accelerating rapidly.
Entanet this week provided us with a list of 18 exchanges they intend to launch their LLU-based “Ethernet First Mile” service at. This service, first launched in October 2007 at two exchanges, offers up to 100Mbps connections through bonding.
The locations of their 20 exchanges (the new 18 plus the original 2) overlaps remarkably closely with the 20 core nodes of the 21CN network (see here for more), perhaps giving away the apparently secret locations of the 21CN core. Given Entanet’s commitment to 21CN, it is not surprising that they have opted for presence at all 20 aggregation points nationwide, and it is also good to see them leveraging this presence to offer their LLU services as well.
NewNet have also been expanding their LLU coverage recently. Their 24Mbps service has proven popular with users in their home town of Portsmouth, so they’ve begun expanding to other sites in Hampshire and even out to Reading. They now have six exchanges live and a further four exchanges scheduled.
Last but not least, Edge Telecom have also been growing their network. In the past few weeks they’ve brought a further eight exchanges online in Central London and have two more planned.
