EU approves recovery plan with broadband element
The EU Council last week agreed the Economic Recovery Plan, which includes an element referring to broadband infrastructure :-
on the basis of a list of specific projects which will be presented by the Commission, taking into account a suitable geographical balance, the mobilisation of the possibilities, in the context of the Community budget, for strengthening investment in these sectors and, through regulatory incentives, developing broadband internet, including in areas that are poorly served;
The specific mention of universal broadband coverage by 2010 is missing from the Presidency’s summary, so we’ll have to wait for further detail and the national implementation plans for more news on this.
