Faster upload service launched by BT
03 Aug 2010 | 12.56 Europe/London
Higher upload speed technology was launched yesterday by BT Wholesale.
Its Annex M service has been trialled throughout the year and is now deemed ready to launch to ISPs who offer broadband services thorugh BT Wholesale. The new service allows companies to sacrifice some of their download speed to achieve improved uploads. BT claims trials have shown upload speeds improve between 200kbit/s to 1Mbit/s through sacrificing 10-15% of download speed.
Annex M is being rolled out in line with BT Wholesale’s WBC ADSL2+ footprint which currently covers 55% of homes and businesses in the UK and should cover 75% by spring 2011.
It is expected to appeal mostly to companies which rely on uploading information as much as downloading data, such as media firms, as well as any business which uses VoIP and videoconferencing. Call and video quality can be improved by tweaking the typical ADSL connection to provide a more stable and faster upload speed.
