French broadband growth of 8% sees 20.8m connected
08 Dec 2010 | 12.29 Europe/London
The French broadband market broke through the 20m subscriber mark in the third quarter of 2010, thanks to an 8% growth in connections over 2009 figures.
France’s telecoms regulator Arcep hsa published numbers which reveal the country now has 20.8m high speed or ultra high speed broadband subscribers.
This marks an increase of around 1.6m over 2009 levels, of which one in four (420,000) are for connections offering speeds of 50Mbp/s (5Mbp/s upload) or more. In fact, in the third quarter of the year there were 55,000 net new subscribers at such ultra high speeds.
Nevertheless, as one would imagine, ADSL still accounts for the majority of growth. Of the country’s 20.8m connections, 19.47m are ADSL.
