iPhone 4 hits UK: Vodafone offers double O2’s monthly data

24 Jun 2010 | 12.49 Europe/London
The traditional queues outside Regent Street’s Apple Store this morning signalled the arrival of the iPhone 4.

Although some question marks remain over how it can lose signal when held in the hand, one of the defining moments of the launch is for mobile networks to clarify how much ‘unlimited’ mobile broadband access is given.

This used to be a grey area but the latest smartphones are prompting operators to be clear how much data they will permit a month.

These start off with 500Mb a month on O2 packages, which rises to 750Mb for tariffs of £45 or more a month. Orange is a little more generous with 750Mb on all packages but Vodafone is currently the top choice for data guzzlers, with 1Gb available per month. 3 and T-Mobile are yet to offer the phone.

From October, O2 will be offering £5 monthly bolts on to add another 500Mb to tariffs.
