New mapping engine goes live

This boxing day sees the release of a much needed new mapping engine on the site. The new system offers a whole host of new features that many of you will hopefully find useful. These include:

  • Dynamic browsing of the map - Exchanges will now load automatically as you browse around the UK, no matter how far you go.
  • Address based availability checking using only point-and-click along with a house/name number. Those moving home should find this feature particularly useful! Data is accurate to premise level for all ADSL services and Virgin Media cable services.
  • Exchange coverage polygons show you the rough area that an exchange covers. This one may still be a little buggy for some areas.

The existing Wholesale Checker will be updated over the next couple of weeks to support address based checking as well. In the meantime, you can start using the new mapping engine here, or read more about it here.

Update (27th Dec): Thanks to everyone who has emailed with feedback so far. A fair few bugs have been remedied as a direct result. As usual, if you have any feedback about the new tool then I’d love to hear from you.
