New site design for SamKnows.com

03 Jun 2010 | 17.52 Europe/London
Long time visitors to SamKnows will notice that we’ve made some changes to the site. Whilst we don’t have much of a reputation as designers, our intention with the new layout is to make the site simpler, so that we can cram in more information and features. All of the usual content is here, or at least it will be soon, alongside much more comprehensive information about our broadband measurement projects.

In April we started working with the FCC to put together a panel of broadband consumers in the US, to emulate the project we’ve been working on with Ofcom for the past 18 months. We’re putting the new site live in stages and apologise for any inconvenience caused, but we wanted to have the new site ready to coincide with the launch of Test My ISP, today.

Test My ISP is a new site that we’ve launched in partnership with the FCC for volunteers to register for the SamKnows US panel. We’ll also start using Test My ISP for the UK/Ofcom project, and we’ll look to update it with the UK form in the next few days.

In terms of the design – we’ve tried to keep things as simple as possible with no flashy graphics or multicoloured buttons. We wanted to keep it as simple as possible and we hope you like it. As the sections like UK Availability and Exchange Search are put live, we’ll be sending updates via Twitter, so please sign up to follow us @samknows.

Finally, whilst the projects that we’re working on have given us opportunities around the world, we remain true to our roots, which is as a free information resource for broadband consumers. If you have ideas about what content we could add to our new site, to maximise the cleaner design, please give us a shout, we’d love to hear from you.  We want to thank you for your support and intend to continue to supply you with useful broadband availability information and broadband performance data.
