Satellite broadband 50Mb service coming from Inmarsat

Inmarsat is to launch a 50Mbit/s satellite broadband service to ships and planes by 2014.
The British communications company has announced a contract with Boeing to supply three satellites which will form part of its Global Xpress network which is believed to cost £750m to develop.
At the moment Inmarsat offers simultaneous voice and broadband satellite services below 1 Mbp/s on equipment the size of a laptop. By 2014, however, it is predicting it will be able to offer a 50Mbit/s service to boat and plane passengers as well as a 10Mbit/s service to individuals through receiving equipment no larger than an iPad.
