02:41 pm - July 4th, 2008 by Sam

We’ve received an awful lot of emails over the past few days from people keen to find out when Be Unlimited and O2 will be offering services in their area. The sudden upsurge in this email traffic is of course because the June 30th RFS (Ready For Service) date for around 150 exchanges has passed.

The capacity challenge facing BT Openreach

08:16 pm - May 20th, 2008 by Sam

The growth of local loop unbundling (LLU) in the past 18 months has undoubtedly been explosive. In the last quarter alone there were over 600,000 LLU connections provisioned. But all of this growth is taking its toll on the physical capacity of the exchanges themselves. Indeed, many exchanges in London now have nearly ten separate

On Thursday afternoon, Be (owned by O2) announced to their members that they could no longer accept new orders for customers on the Poplar exchange. This may seem rather unimportant at first glance, but the reason behind it is actually quite interesting.
According to Brett Coles, Head of Member Services at Be, the root issue is

Mobile operator O2 yesterday caught up with the rest of the mobile crowd and launched their broadband offerings. Carphone Warehouse rollout update

10:36 pm - May 6th, 2007 by Sam

Carphone’s targeted rollout of 1,000 exchanges just over a year ago has already been surpassed. No less than 1,134 exchanges have been unbundled now. What’s potentially even more interesting is that they are targetting a further 500 exchanges by March 2008 (see page 36 of CPW’s annual strategy day PDF). Also of interest in the

Some LLU updates

10:32 am - March 6th, 2007 by Sam

If 2006 truly was the “year of LLU”, then it appears that someone forgot to tell Be* (O2), Easynet (Sky) and Carphone Warehouse (TalkTalk) that we’re now in 2007. All three companies have started 2007 with the same fervour as they finished 2006 with.
