Talk Talk have announced revisions to its broadband and phone bundles available from Tuesday November 18th.

Customers on exchanges with Talk Talk equipment will be able to “Boost” their speed above 8Mbits/s download by opting for an “up to 24M” option if their line is capable of a higher speed, for a monthly topup of £4/month which can be turned on and off via a customer portal.

Other “boosts” include an extra 40 GB/month download, half price mobile calls and so on. These are on top of the basic £16.99 Talk Global Evening & Weekend package which comes with “inclusive up to 8M” broadband on exchanges with Talk Talk LLU.

On non-LLU exchanges, covering perhaps 30% of the population, the broadband costs £15/month extra and is supplied at a fixed speed of 0.5, 1 or 2M which makes the offer unattractive in these areas.

Talk Talk also have a £29.99 connection fee, an 18 month contract that they would like to believe is the industry standard (we believe they were the first to do this) and being fully unbundled LLU there are some restrictions on 3rd party call carrier services available on the line - caveat emptor. Returning from full LLU to another operator can also involve additional complexity and cost. Another factor to consider is that the Talk Talk online checker currently offers a 30 day lead time for a broadband connection, compared to the usual 5-10 days.
