Yet Another OFCOM Spectrum Consultation

13 Feb 2009 | 08.48 Europe/London
OFCOM are having another go at achieving consensus on liberalising the use of some mobile phone spectrum with a view to promoting competition and innovation. At the same time Lord Carter has appointed Kip Meek as a "Captain Scarlet" figure to head the challenge to the Mysterons of the mobile phone companies. Meek has been brought in to bang heads together to ensure that spectrum arguments don't get in the way of the "Digital Britain" masterplan, with its questionable reliance on mobile broadband for universal broadband provision.

Part of OFCOM's proposal is a smash and grab raid on part of Vodafone and O2's 900 MHz 2G GSM spectrum, likely to be resolved in the Courts at the rate things are progressing.
